Built in the early 18th century by brothers Michele and Piergiacomo Sartorio commissioned by Giovanni Battista Modegnani, it was completed in 1726. Imposing in its Baroque forms, the mansion has no entrance portal but a wrought-iron gate, the work of Alessandro Mazzuccotelli (1865-1938), leading to a large courtyard with coupled columns typical of the late Baroque period. Inside, there are remarkable frescoes by Sebastiano Galeotti. Some illustrious figures found hospitality in this building: Napoleon Bonaparte (in 1796); the Emperors of Austria Franz I (in 1815 and 1825), Ferdinand I (in 1838) and Franz Joseph (in 1857); as well as the King of Italy Victor Emmanuel II (in 1859).
