The grape harvest in Lombardy
When the summer sun sheds its last rays on the rows of vines, the Lombard wineries gear up for visits and events to let everyone know about the ancient ritual of the grape harvest. However, wine tourism experiences in Lombardy do not stop there. Here are our suggestions dedicated to wine lovers and more.
Where to harvest in Lombardy
The grape harvest? It’s a big party! But the experience goes further: because from the Valtelline to the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese in the wine districts of Lombardy and their over 22,000 hectares of vineyards are dotted with small and enchanting villages. To choose your destination in September and October, we recommend taking a look at the Cantine Aperte (‘Open wineries’) programme, an initiative promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino della Lombardia, a non-profit association that brings together over 1,000 of the most prestigious wineries in Italy. For five Sundays, from 8 September to 6 October, numerous wineries scattered throughout the region will open their doors offering visits, walks, tastings and initiatives that are also suitable for children. Activities can be booked through the EnoNautilus app or by phone (+39 340 95466271), or by contacting the participating wineries directly. While with the Franciacorta Festival in Cantina on 14 and 15 September, you can visit 64 local wineries. Here is the programme.
